STYLISH, INTELLIGENT AND THIRST-QUENCHING
FISHER & PAYKEL’S NEW ICE AND WATER DISPENSING REFRIGERATORS

January 2007

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – Fisher & Paykel’s range of Stainless Steel Active Smart Refrigerators offer beauty, brains and now, with the release of two new models, an unlimited supply of cool, filtered ice and water.

Normally, external door water dispensers – although convenient – have been known to take up a large proportion of the refrigerator’s internal volume. Fisher & Paykel, true to their innovative reputation, have solved the problem installing a stylish water dispenser in their large 17.3 cubic feet upright refrigerator which occupies only 0.12 cubic feet of the refrigerator’s total usable volume, yet provides cold, filtered water at the touch of a button.

Likewise the internal ice dispenser located in the freezer filters ice cubes into a dedicated ice bin ensuring a constant and steady supply of ice at all times alleviating the need to fill and store ice trays, therefore avoiding spills and mess.

Two new models in EZKleen brushed stainless steel with a choice of either Fisher & Paykel’s new ‘designer series’ flat fronted or traditional ‘icon’ curved door will be released to the market in the second quarter of this year. All Fisher & Paykel ice and water dispensing refrigerators are models with the freezer located below the fridge.

Filtration made Easy

“As is standard with ice and water making refrigerators,” said Laurence Mawhinney, VP Sales & Marketing Fisher & Paykel Appliances, “these refrigerators will need to be plumbed in, but for convenience, we’ve built in an automatic water cut-off mechanism to make filter cartridge replacement quick and easy, without requiring the water supply to the refrigerator to be shut-off. This superior design gives us a competitive advantage over many other ice and water dispensing refrigerators available today. The filter also has a pressure reducer and a double flow back prevention feature for added safety,” he said.

Automatic measured fill simplifies cooking

Other key features of these new ice & water models include an automatic ‘measured fill’ facility that has preset quantities of a cup (8 fl. oz), glass (10 fl. oz) or pitcher (32 fl. oz) measuring out an exact quantity of water, which is ideal for consumers who do a lot of baking or cooking. These preset measurements can also be adjusted in one-fluid-ounce increments to allow for recipes that call for a specific measure.

‘Freezer Chill’ and ‘Bottle Chill’ bring intelligence to refrigeration

Fisher & Paykel’s new ‘Freezer Chill’ function is a premium feature on new Active Smart ice and water refrigerator models. ‘Freezer Chill’ mode, when activated, sets the freezer to a minimum temperature for 12 hours to freeze room temperature food fast. This is useful if the freezer has just been loaded with fresh meat or perishable items that need to be frozen quickly to maintain quality and guarantee safety.

Another new feature is ‘Bottle Chill’ which, like ‘Freezer Chill’ activates low temperatures to make the freezer as cold as possible for a set period of time. Designed to chill a bottle or can, ‘Bottle Chill’ can be set at 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30-minute increments.

Said Mawhinney, “Fisher & Paykel’s Active Smart refrigerators have always been among the most intelligent available, fitted with sensors to constantly monitor internal temperatures, to chill contents quickly and to lock in freshness. This intelligence also equates to energy efficiency, as the refrigerator monitors usage patterns and adjusts operation accordingly. Now, as well as offering consumers one of the most intelligent refrigerators, we can provide the added conveniences of a never-ending supply of filtered ice and water, measured fill function and Bottle and Freezer Chill options.

“The ice and water dispenser does not detract from the appearance of the refrigerator,” continued Mawhinney, “In fact, we feel it’s the most attractive looking in-built door water dispenser on the market. We’re very excited about the launch of these new refrigerators, as they represent a new era in Fisher & Paykel refrigeration.”
