Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pros & Cons compared with 17 year old model Having owned a previous model dd603 for 17 years we have grown to love the design of the drawer dishwasher. We replaced the old model just as an upgrade and sold the 17 year old for $250. The older model had some features we like better than the new model. The old model had separate controls for both drawers. This new one has a common control for both and occasionally we start the operation on the wrong drawer as it is just a light on the panel to indicate upper or lower. This new unit does a number of 1 or 2 second motor starts during the draining cycle. The motor will start for 1 second and stop for 9 seconds repeatedly for as many as a dozen times before continuing. Service personnel tell me this is normal but it becomes annoying when listening to it as it sounds like it is struggling to run. The most missing feature is after the cycle is completed there is no visual indication that stays on to inform you the cycle has completed. You open the drawer and either start removing dirty dishes or start putting dirty dishes in a clean load because nothing shows externally if a cycle was done. The sanitize feature is not available on the shorter time cycles. There also appears to be either a larger opening in the dish rack or the distance between the wash arm and the dish rack is less which now allows some of our plates or dishes to interfere with the wash arm. There is also a void in the rear right of the rack that allows you to place a dish which will interfere with the wash arm . Same plates and dishes which did not interfere in the old model. The silverware basket does not disassemble like the old one which makes it difficult to properly clean. The base of the drawer now requires a torx screwdriver to remove for deep cleaning. The new model has a screen filter which actually comes apart for cleaning ( great idea). Larger upper drawer uses the space under the counter so you don’t have to install a 2” lift under the appliance like the old one. All in all we are happy with the Fisher Paykel double drawer dishwasher and hope it will last as long as the old one.
