A-frame

A classic timber A-frame cabin has been redesigned, by Studio Plow, to create warmth and intimacy with a striking, minimal all-black kitchen set into a rustic, all-white space.

Moments of Contrast

The beautiful surrounding redwood trees complement the elegance of the property but block much of the sun’s warmth. To bring in more light, large areas of asymmetric glazing were added to the rear wall of the cabin, which overlooks the deck and river. The entire interior was painted white, making the black kitchen a point of contrast in the space.

The Distributed Kitchen

The designer duo, Brit and Daniel Epperson wanted to maintain a modest footprint and use an L-shaped structure with the appliances distributed around the kitchen to enable flexibility. Space was strategically saved by integrating two CoolDrawers™, one as a freezer and the other as a fridge, instead of a tall, cabinet-height refrigerator. Each CoolDrawer™ can be used as a refrigerator, pantry or freezer with the push of a button.

Cooking Flexibility

Daniel, a former chef, also wanted to maximise the cooking potential of the kitchen even within a small space. The 11-function double oven and five burner cooktop are big appliances for a small space, allowing the pair to host guests and parties as well as working effectively for just the two of them.
