Graduates

Fisher & Paykel has a history of providing graduates with long and rewarding careers that have taken them across the globe and into senior executive roles. We trust and empower our graduates to solve real world problems, and offer them the opportunity to see their work transform into design solutions in our products. At the core of this programme, we provide them with support and guidance to help reach the best outcomes for our customers.

In both 2023 and 2024 we have been recognised as the top graduate employer in Aotearoa New Zealand's Research & Development sector. Our graduate experience ensures they can build a strong core skill base as a foundation for their career, with real-time learning from some of the best minds in the industry. As a company driven by human-centred design, we value the fresh perspectives offered by our graduates, giving us the opportunity to learn and evolve too.

We bring graduates into our teams in Product Development (mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, food science, consumer sciences) and IT/Digital (computer science).

Applications for Graduates to start in 2026 will open in May/June 2025.

Interns

We take pride in being able to offer opportunities to the next generation of talent by providing summer internships each year. Paid internship positions are available in our Engineering and Science fields at both Fisher & Paykel Appliances and Fisher & Paykel Technologies.

We are proud to offer Maurice Paykel Scholarships to a select few on completion of their internship programme. Recipients will receive a cash grant to financially assist with their final academic year.

Internships – Summer (November – February)

We are pleased to be able to offer opportunities for summer internships in both Auckland and Dunedin within Product Development. Positions will be available in our engineering teams.

Applications for Summer 2025/2026 will open in June/July 2025.

Apprentices

Our Appliance Service Technicians are the face of Fisher & Paykel, providing successful troubleshooting advice to our customers. A paid apprenticeship programme takes approximately two years to complete and results in a full Appliance Service Technician Ticket.

Apprentices enjoy mentoring from Technicians who are recognised as specialists in their field. Daily training is delivered in a supportive team environment, with a strong health and safety focus, top-of-the-line tools and trade, and unrivalled career development and growth opportunities.

  • Established a global employee‐led Gender Inclusion and Cultural Diversity network, as well as a Māori and Pasifika network in New Zealand. These networks play a big part in organising internal cultural, religious and social events such as Māori, Samoan and Tongan language weeks and Matariki (Māori new year) in New Zealand, International Women's, Men's Days and Lunar New Year Globally – all to raise awareness of the diversity within our teams
  • Developed and implemented Thrive, career mentorship programme for women, focusing on supporting acceleration of our pipeline of female talent
  • Sponsored and attended events with Women in Engineering at Auckland and Christchurch universities
  • Updated key policies and practices, like flexible working and Whānau (Family) Leave, to enable greater participation and ensure all our people – regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background – have the opportunity to thrive at Fisher & Paykel with equitable career opportunities and progression paths
  • Launched an annual Global Diversity Survey to help us understand the diversity of our people and the progress we are making towards becoming a more diverse workforce
  • Implemented Unconscious Bias training for everyone to raise awareness and provide education around appropriate workplace behaviours
  • Introduced global language courses: Te Reo Māori courses in collaboration with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, as well as Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Launched a new People Networks portal for all Fisher & Paykel employees who wish to contribute their voice and vision towards the future of our organization
  • Developed a new DEI playbook to support teams with implementing good DEI practices
  • Designed inclusive Leadership Development Programme for all our leaders globally

While we are proud of how far we have come as an organization, there is still more we want to achieve. Through global and local initiatives and ongoing ‘business-as-usual’ activity we aim to strengthen, embed, and sustain Diversity, Equity & Inclusion across all parts of our people's journey at Fisher & Paykel. In recent years, we’ve refined product design to reduce energy consumption by up to 50% and appointed Sustainability Business Partners who are leading work to:

  • Perform Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of key products
  • Formalise our Sustainably Minded organisational structure
  • Measure our greenhouse gas baseline across operations for 2019 and 2020
  • Reduce our operational and product waste
